Congratulations on bringing your eCommerce business into the New Year! It’s an achievement many people haven’t reached, and you should be proud of the progress that you’ve made over the past 4 quarters. Now is the time to look at all of your business systems, pipelines, and strategies to determine what’s working and how you can improve your business. On this episode of Marketing For eCommerce, I share with you 4 main areas in which you can improve your business, and they’re all ideas that you can take action on TODAY. Don’t miss a single word, listen now!

People overestimate what they can do in 1 year, but underestimate what can happen in 10 years

One of my favorite sayings around the New Year is, “People overestimate what they can do in 1 year, but underestimate what can happen in 10 years.” Think back to where you were in 2009. What ideas, dreams, and plans did you have? Did you achieve them? If not, what prevented you from succeeding at them? There’s no better time than now to sit down, ask the tough questions, and create a stellar plan for 2019.

Let 2019 be the year you create systems that set you up for personal and professional success

Far too many eCommerce professionals rely on motivation and inspiration alone to get work done. Relying on bursts of energy isn’t a sustainable way to grow a business, which is why you need to create systems that will cultivate a space of productivity in your personal and professional life. One system that I encourage you to try is deep work. Rather than give your attention to every single notification, ping, and tweet that comes your way, set aside blocks of time where you focus exclusively on one portion of your project. I believe deep work has the power to revolutionize 2019 for you and your business, so be sure to check out this episode for all the details.

Systemizing your marketing allows your eCommerce business to build its own momentum

Every wildly successful eCommerce business has a system for 3 major components of their business: their essential sales funnel, their audience, and their advertisements. Once every layer of this pyramid is solid, your marketing strategy will start to build its own momentum. It takes time, but I promise it’s 100% worth the investment.

Every business has various audience stages - you need to understand yours!

Businesses have 3 main stages of audience awareness. The “hot” audience in your market is described as the people who are already aware of your brand and your product. They’re most likely repeat customers, and their only concern is your price point. “Warm” audience members are aware of your brand and they’ve often abandoned carts, but they have not yet converted into buyers. They may subscribe to your brand’s mission and product benefits, but something is preventing them from purchasing. Finally, you have your “cold” audiences. These potential customers don’t have any relationship with you as a seller, and may not be aware of their problem or have a desire to solve their problem. (I go into more detail on these stages of awareness in episode 35, be sure to check it out.) By being aware of these stages, you can develop specific marketing tactics that target each segment.

These strategies are sure to make 2019 your best year of eCommerce business yet. For every detail that you don’t want to miss, be sure to give this episode a listen. Happy New Year!
